Walgreens has announced that it will install electric car chargers at 800 of its stores across the United States by the end of the year. As many as one-third of them may be direct-current Level 3 ?fast chargers,? says spokeswoman Tiffani Washington. Fast chargers can recharge an electric car, such as the Nissan Leaf, up to 80 percent of a full charge in a half hour.

Installations are underway at 60 locations in Chicago and Texas. The charging stations will also be installed at Walgreens stores in Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

The company is working with several different partners to install the chargers in the various locations. Prices for charging will be based on the local cost of electricity.

With stores along many major highways, the company expects its chargers to provide an infrastructure for electric cars travel between cities outside the range of their batteries. Along the way, Walgreens hopes customers who drive EVs will spend some time shopping in its stores while their cars are charging outside.

According to Walgreens, the Department of Energy says its planned chargers will make up 40 percent of the public chargers installed across the country, once they are installed.

A new survey suggests that Apple may have sold its iPhone 5 to more than a third of smartphone consumers before the device is even announced, let alone on the market. Seven percent will wait online to buy it within the first week.

The survey was conducted between July 1 and 11. Then, as now, there was no word from Apple that a new iPhone is coming, though the company has released one every summer since 2007, usually in June. A variety of factors, likely including component shortages and the introduction of an iPhone 4 for Verizon Wireless in February, postponed this year's refresh.

"Our survey data confirms the strong following Apple has built around its iPhone, with more than one-third of consumers planning to upgrade to the latest model only a little over a year following the release of the iPhone 4," said Graham Jones, general manager of PriceGrabber, a division of credit-monitoring agency Experian. "Anticipation and brand loyalty are certainly high, but in today's 24/7 work culture and uncertain economic environment, consumers are cautious to look for a reasonably priced phone that will perform optimally over an extended time period."

While 69 percent of consumers said they would most like to receive an iPhone 5 as a gift, the runners-up, trailing far behind, were Motorola's upcoming Droid Bionic at seven percent, four percent for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II, and three percent for the BlackBerry Curve.

The iPhone findings conflict with recent surveys showing that Android devices are overpowering Apple in the smartphone market. A study by Gartner Research in the first quarter found that Android-device shipments in the U.S. made up 36 percent of the market, compared to 16.8 percent for Apple.

"The desire factor on iPhone is very high," said analyst Gerry Purdy of Mobiletrax. "There are a number of people who say, 'I'd love to have an iPhone,' but when it comes time to buy, they find that the family plan doesn't allow for it or a parent doesn't allow for it, or their plan" doesn't allow an upgrade yet, he said.

Q: Our buyer?s Realtor let the buyer in our house when we were gone and they ripped up all the carpet from the corners and all the edges to ?see if there were any cracks in the slab? (there were none). Our Realtor knew nothing about this. When I came home, I found the carpets torn out of the corners, one even had an eight-inch rip in it, and the appraiser was coming the next day. I worked hard to try to fix the buckling carpet, which no longer lay flat on the floor. It still looked awful. What recourse do I have? I feel very violated; this was vandalsim at the hands of a Realtor, who got in our house. Isn?t this a huge breach of trust for your profession? We are still in escrow and it is still our house, not theirs. Our contract states that if any of their inspectors damage anything, they will be liable, but this was not an inspector, this was the realtor and her clients! I can?t tell you how angry I am. Our Realtor is wonderful and feels terrible that this happened. I could have made a police report but didn?t because I didn?t know who did this and only found out by accident. Their Realtor has admitted that she let them in and did this it but offers no excuse and no apology.

A: Wow, that is not good. I can understand that you feel violated. However, at this point, taking legal action against any party involved will not get you to your end goal ? to get the house sold to these buyers (who will clearly be ripping the carpet out when they take possession).

I would however have your Realtor call the manager of the office for the buyer?s agent and let them know what she did. Most offices do not want to be poorly represented by their agents and will have a word with her at the very least.

Of course, also remove any lockbox you had on the house. She must have had a code in order to get in without permission. If the house is in escrow, there should be no method of entry other than going through your Realtor.

James Murdoch contradicted by his ex-legal manager (AP)

LONDON ? James Murdoch was under pressure Friday over claims he misled lawmakers about Britain's phone hacking scandal, as a lawmaker called for a police investigation and Prime Minister David Cameron insisted the media scion had "questions to answer" about what he knew and when he knew it.

Two former top staffers in the Murdoch media empire released a statement late Thursday saying they told James Murdoch years ago about an email that suggested wrongdoing at the News of the World tabloid was more widespread than the company let on ? contradicting a claim by Rupert Murdoch's son that he was not aware of evidence the eavesdropping went beyond a jailed rogue reporter.

The claim could be a serious problem for the embattled James Murdoch, who heads the Europe and Asia operations of his father's News Corp. Deliberately misleading Parliament is a crime in Britain.

It's also the first sign that Murdoch executives are starting to turn against the empire in the wake of a scandal that has already cost it one of its British tabloids, two top executives and a $12 billion-dollar bid for control of lucrative satellite broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting.

Tom Watson, a legislator from the opposition Labour Party, called for Scotland Yard to look into the allegation and said it "marks a major step forward in getting to the facts of this case."

"If their version of events is accurate, it doesn't just mean that Parliament has been misled, it means police have another investigation on their hands," Watson told the BBC.

News International, News Corp.'s British newspaper arm, said James Murdoch stood by his statement Tuesday to the parliamentary committee investigating the phone-hacking scandal, which exploded with revelations journalists at the News of the World tabloid hacked the phone of a 13-year-old murder victim while police were still searching for her and broadened to include claims reporters paid police for information.

That set off a firestorm which hit at the highest reaches of British society. It forced Rupert Murdoch to shutter News of the World, prompting a spate of high-profile resignations and departures at News Corp. and delivering the 80-year-old media baron and his son to be grilled before lawmakers.

Cameron, who himself has been tainted by the scandal after hiring an ex-News of the World editor, continued to distance himself from a once-cozy relationship with the Murdochs.

"Clearly James Murdoch has got questions to answer in Parliament and I am sure that he will do that," Cameron said Friday, adding the Murdochs had "a mess to clear up."

James Murdoch, in his testimony on Tuesday, batted away claims he knew the full extent of the illegal espionage at the News of the World when he approved a 700,000 pound ($1.1 million) payout in 2008 to soccer players' association chief Gordon Taylor, one of the phone hacking victims.

News International had long maintained that the eavesdropping was limited to a single rogue reporter, Clive Goodman, and the private investigator he was working with to break into voice mails of members of the royal household.

But an email uncovered during legal proceedings seemed to cast doubt on that claim. It contained a transcript of an illegally obtained conversation, drawn up by a junior reporter and marked "for Neville" ? an apparent reference to the News of the World's chief reporter, Neville Thurlbeck.

Because it seemed to implicate others in the hacking, the email had the potential to blow a hole through News International's fiercely held contention that one reporter alone had engaged in hacking. If James Murdoch knew about the email ? and was aware of its implication ? it would lend weight to the suggestion he'd approved the payoff in an effort to bury the scandal.

James Murdoch told lawmakers he was not aware of the email at the time, but former legal adviser Tom Crone and ex-editor Colin Myler contradicted him.

"We would like to point out that James Murdoch's recollection of what he was told when agreeing to settle the Gordon Taylor litigation was mistaken," they said. "In fact, we did inform him of the 'for Neville' email which had been produced to us by Gordon Taylor's lawyers."

The Conservative lawmaker who heads the committee, James Whittingdale, said James Murdoch would be asked in writing to clarify his testimony, but would not be recalled before the committee.

Murdoch's News Corp. is trying to keep the damage from spreading to its more lucrative U.S. holdings, including the Fox network, 20th Century Fox and the Wall Street Journal.

British politicians have felt the heat too, with the country's top two party leaders falling over each other to distance themselves from papers they once courted assiduously.

Cameron's former communications director ? Murdoch newspapers veteran Andy Coulson ? came under fresh scrutiny Thursday after it was reported that he did not have a top-level security clearance, which spared him from the most stringent type of vetting.

The former News of the World editor was arrested this month in connection with allegations that reporters at the tabloid intercepted voice mails. Victims included celebrities, crime victims and politicians.

Lawyers could also have been targeted, according to The Law Society. It said solicitors had been warned by police that their phones may have been hacked by the paper.

Scotland Yard, accused of failing to properly investigate the scandal for years, has also been asked to investigate another explosive claim: That journalists bribed officers to locate people by tracking their cell phone signals.

The practice is known as "pinging" because of the way cell phone signals bounce off relay towers as they try to find reception. Jenny Jones, a member of the board that oversees the Metropolitan Police Authority, called for the inquiry into the alleged payoffs by journalists at the News of the World.

Two arresting contemporary works in the Milwaukee Art Museum?s Summer of China exemplify the Spiritual and the Political, the two principal strains of contemporary art in China.

Zhan Wang?s Artificial Rock No. 43 is a monumental reflection upon on the venerable Chinese tradition of scholar?s rocks. A classic example? stands at the entrance to The Emperor?s Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City now on exhibition at MAM.? But Wang?s Rock is very much a masterpiece of our own time.

Wang hammered stainless steel over actual boulders to capture their every facet. Then he polished the steel to a gleaming shine. Artificial Rock No. 43 glistens magnificently as it reflects and fractures the shifting sun, clouds, sky and Lake Michigan, which shimmers a few yards beyond the vast windows of the east wall of Windhover Hall.

I viewed it in the company of chief curator Brady Roberts. We then headed to the latest addition to MAM?s Summer of China: Yue Minjun?s Chinese Contemporary Warriors, perfectly installed in the Lake Level contemporary art collection.

As we rounded the corner, the ranks of Warriors appeared as a startling force, lined up in perspective leading to the back of the gallery. (Around a half wall, Magdelena Abakanowicz? headless burlap Two Figures on a Beam stand as a sly riff on Yue?s human forms).? We walked among Yue?s slightly larger than life warriors. There is no avoiding visceral interaction with this strange army.? These warriors, all stylized self-portraits of the artist cast in bronze from a single sculpture, vary only by their surface imperfections.

Their human scale is unnerving.? The warriors? jeans, a bit too long and so realistic you feel you could wear them, drape around enormous feet firmly planted on the low, square pedestals.? Sleeveless undershirts stretched out at the neck are tucked into beltless pants.? Muscled arms, a bit too large for the slender, human proportioned bodies, end in very large hands that reach up to cover the ears of the enormous round heads.? The huge faces, with eyes squeezed shut, are overtaken by identical giant grins.

We?ve seen these smiles before.? Yue Minjun, born in 1962, is internationally renowned primarily for his paintings of smiling self-portraits. He obviously refers to socialist realist art, the official style of? communist totalitarian states everywhere. His satire is hard to miss.

In a 2007 interview with the New York Times? Richard Bernstein, Yue said:? ?A smile doesn?t necessarily mean happiness; it could be something else.? ?The smile has been variously interpreted as a sort of joke at the absurdity of it all, or the illusion of happiness in lives inevitably heading toward extinction.? Karen Smith, a Beijing expert on Chinese art, suggests that Yue?s grin masks feelings of helplessness. ?In China there?s a long history of the smile,? Yue said. ?There is the Maitreya Buddha who can tell the future and whose facial expression is a laugh. Normally there?s an inscription saying that you should be optimistic and laugh in the face of reality.?

The museum?s wall text puts it this way:? ?Mindlessly happy in their uniformity, the compliant citizens of this absurd army recall the famed terra-cotta warriors from Xian. Rather than the serious visages of the warriors, however, these figures convey ?see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.??

Roberts explained that this ancient saying probably originated in Japan, moved to China, where it customarily ends with ?Do no evil.?? ?These warriors are completely silent, yet speak so loudly,? he said.

Roberts interprets the work is a satirical critique of the Chinese government. He sees Yue as stepping to the edge but not crossing the line of what the government considers illegal criticism. (Ai Weiwei, whose work Roberts had hoped to have in this show, famously crossed that line and was arrested in April.)

So far, Yue has been subtle enough to dodge official sanction. So, see no evil, hear no evil ? but laugh in the face of absurdity.
