I am drowning in content.
At first, I liked having so much to choose from and scroll through. ?But now I find myself overwhelmed every time I sit down to my computer.
I have all these incredible sources of information and insight at my fingertips. I can?t help but feel like they are less valuable when retained for only me to see ? these findings must be shared, their impact passed on.
In an attempt to get organized, I?d like to take this time to look into all the content aggregators I have bombarded myself with and then work out a way to strategically push different types of content.
Tools for Aggregating Content
I have divided the accounts I follow into lists (which you can access and follow?here). I have contact lists (people I follow, get to know and intend to keep in touch with) and content lists (sources of information).

Pros: Twitter content moves quickly so that you can view more content in less time. You can sort all your content so that you can follow specific topics.
Cons: 140 character limit. If I find something I want to share on Twitter that can?t be conveyed in so few words I usually share the content through a different platform that is then pushed through Twitter as a shorter form link.
GOOGLE READER
Artsy, Business, Film, Music, LOL Blogs, News, Health/Lifestyle, Social Media, Tech, Zines?(click on each topic to see the blogs I have compiled in each category)
Pros: I can view information-heavy content in ?List View? and scan through headlines instead of having to scan through entire articles. I can view picture/video content in ?Expanded View? and scroll through content seamlessly. The Google Reader app on my phone is one of my most used, great for jumping from one article to the next while sitting on public transport.
Cons: I have compiled far too many blogs to be able to keep up with. I need to pay attention to the content being share by each blog and cull those that I am less interested in.
FACEBOOK PAGES
Page ?Likes? are all the rage these days and most companies/organizations/bands/celebs seem to be reverting to FB Pages to push their content.
Pros: Great for re-posting content to Facebook friends using ?Share? button.
Cons: ?Facebook feed becomes consumed with impersonal content. I enjoy using Facebook for personal connections and content. I can?t sort out my likes or control how they show up in my feed.
Tools for Sharing Content?
Now that I know what content I have to work with, I need to work out how I will push such content in the most strategic way possible. Of great importance here is the way the content is displayed, shared and what audiences it reaches.
Facebook ? Good for sharing a wide range of content with a specific audience (of friends) in mind.
Twitter ? I intend to push all content sharing platforms are pushed through Twitter (Facebook, Tumblr, Delicious, Pinterest) . My twitter account will show off all my social media activity in one place ? my aims are for this to become my biggest and most varied audience.
Google+ - Using the Google + button, I intend to share all Social Media related content. Most of the users I have on Google + are social media/tech oriented.
Tumblr ? For sharing pics, videos, quotes related to music, film, design, humour, inspiration, etc.
Delicious ? For sharing and compiling interesting resources to refer to later or share with others.
Pinterest ? For sharing Fashion, Decor, Places, Recipes.
And now suddenly, after putting some thought into my aggregation and sharing processes, I?ve developed a strategic social media sharing plan! ?I will have to put it to the test and see where it takes me. I can?t wait!
