A pair of teens admitted to binding, gagging and beating a 76-year-old man before covering his head with a grocery bag and rolling his body into a Davie, Fla., canal, according to police reports released Monday.

Corey David Weintraub and Andarly Desir, both 19, were arrested Friday in the murder of William Norman, Davie Police said.

According to the arrest affidavits, the body of Norman was found floating in the canal in the 1400 block of Southwest 121st Avenue by two Water Management District workers.

When officers arrived, they found a plastic grocery bag tied tightly with a cord around Norman's neck and duct tape covering his mouth, the affidavits said. He had several lacerations to his forehead and his left eye was black and blue and swollen shut.

Several items were found nearby, including a blanket, towel, tarp and piece of carpet. A cardboard box addressed to Norman's home in Tampa was also found floating nearby.

When police searched Norman's name, they found a second address in Tamarac. Detectives went to the home and stayed there to make sure no one entered the home, the affidavits said.

Around 10 a.m. on July 6, detectives spotted a man and woman leaving the home and getting into a car owned by Norman. When police stopped the car, they found Weintraub inside.

When detectives interviewed Weintraub, he confessed taking part in the binding, gagging and beating of Norman and implicated Desir, the affidavit said. He said that after Norman died, he and Desir wrapped the body in a blanket and piece of carpet, put him in the trunk of his car and drove to the canal where they rolled his body into the water, the affidavits said.

Also on July 6, Desir was caught on a surveillance camera at a Bank of America trying to use Norman's bank card to make an inquiry into a savings account, the affidavits said.

Later that day, Desir was arrested when he entered Norman's house in Tamarac, the affidavits said. He also admitted to the binding, gagging and beating of Norman, according to the affidavit.

Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle said the teens knew Norman and had both lived in his Tamarac home off and on at different times. Engle said the motive for the killings was money.

Both are being held without bond. It's unknown whether they have attorneys.
