Fernando Medina-US PRESSWIRE
The Tennessee Titans have a couple of defensive backs they want to sign long-term contracts with, and they could be close to getting them both extended by the end of summer. Michael Griffin, their starting safety, has been a fantastic back end of their defense and the team franchised him this off season. Rather than holding out and potentially ruining his 2012 season, the former Texas Longhorn is attending OTAs, hoping the deal will take care of itself. Too bad more athletes aren?t like Griffin.
?Since I?ve been here, I?ve always been a no-public type guy,? Griffin said Wednesday. ?I?ve always been quiet. That?s just me as a person. That?s my nature. ?Even if you were going to [hold out] now, it doesn?t do nothing. There?s no real gain. If you?re doing OTAs, I don?t see what the big deal is. I told my agent I wanted to be here for workouts and all that kind of thing, being around my teammates and having the same trainer as the rest of the team.?
Griffin has had at least 75 tackles in each of the past four seasons, breaking out in 2010 with 103 tackles and four interceptions. The Titans have had a solid defense for quite some time now, and only need to put it together on offense to be a competitive team again.
